  PORTLAND PICKS FOR MEN
  life + style in Stumptown
June 4, 2010

It is said that Father’s Day is the day when father remembers he hasn’t yet paid the bill for Mother’s Day. It’s also said that the two holidays are alike in almost every way except you buy a much cheaper gift in June.

Not this year, guys. Let’s remember that though Dad may have not had the warm, forgiving disposition of Mom, it’s not his fault; men are programmed for a rather detached allegiance to the family unit. Who among us won’t see our own longing for autonomy manifest in constant trips to the golf course or myriad chores that can only be tended to in the garage?

But in his own way, Dad cared. He busted his hump (and sometimes ours) day-in and day-out for the good of the family unit, and for that we’re all going to step it up this year with our gift. Below you’ll find something that’ll please the block… whom you are an old chip off of.

Look at That Punim

Peek in his bathroom. There’s a 90% chance proper shaving tools are lacking. Make no mistake… the better the gear, the better the shave, and the better the condition of his face (you have to look at it, after all). Men are complacent, so don’t think the absence of a timeless set like this chrome beauty from West Coast Shaving doesn’t mean he won’t adore it.

Ease the Pain

If you’ve got a football fanatic on your hands, you’re probably witnessing a real jones for the pigskin ever since Superbowl Sunday. Keep him busy this summer with season tickets to the Portland Raiders. With live bands, BBQ’s and season tickets starting at just $25, it’s a no-brainer, assuring he gets through until fall.

Everything in its Place

Does the Dad in your life have his stuff strewn about a certain table in the house? Is it irksome? Get him what every man should own… a “jewelry box.” Not the typical kind the fairer sex might own, but a masculine wood or leather valet like this one that holds his cuff links, watches, collar stays, keys, etc.

The Outfit

Guys don’t love shopping, but we do love sturdy, timeless clothes. Throw in live music, free beer and the most relaxed atmosphere this side of an opium den, and you have Lizard Lounge, a store where guys actually like to shop. Get him a gift card; he’ll see 30% off regular priced NAU and Horny Toad products June 17th-20th.
